All students at Canyon receive science instruction from a dedicated science instructor, Levi Gardner. Students visit the science lab once a week in lower grades and twice a week in upper grades.
Welcome to the Science Lab!
My name is Levi Gardner and I’m excited to be the science instructor for 2023-2024 at Canyon!
I’ve been an educator for more than 15 years and have worked in agroecology, social sciences,
and the performing arts. My professional background is pretty diverse, but I take a lot of pride
in founding and running an educational non-profit. From 2014 until we closed in 2021 due to
COVID, I had the pleasure of running an urban farm based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The
organization had various educational programs around growing and eating, and we also ran a
community composting program converting tons of household food waste into a healthy soil
amendment!
In my first year at Canyon, I’m looking forward to picking up and learning from Mr. Velado while
getting to know the students, parents, and community. I love teaching and love science and I
am very optimistic about having a great year with the students here.
Outside of my life at Canyon, I love spending my time outdoors, making art, and hanging out
with my family. I was actually born in California but have spent the vast majority of my life in
the Midwest; I relocated just before the 2023 school year and am so excited to be in Southern
California.
I am very happy to be here and looking forward to spending time with the students learning
together about the about the world which we inhabit. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if
you have any questions!
